Located in the quiet region of Carbon County, Montana is the small city of Red Lodge. As the county seat, this peaceful community is proud of its colorful American history dating back to the 19th century. Red Lodge was popular for having one of the largest deposits of coal in the nation. Unfortunately, the Great Depression forced most of the coal mines to close and the resilient community focused on the manufacturing of the liquor, syrup. Red Lodge is a part of the Billings Montana Metropolitan area. Roscoe and Roberts are two of the towns closest to Red Lodge and Red Lodge real estate.
With the construction of the Beartooth Highway, Red Lodge became the gateway to one of the nation’s most beautiful places, the Yellowstone National Park. The previously sluggish economy was given a terrific boost from the city’s tourism industry. Residents and visitors are now provided with numerous recreational activities like biking, camping, climbing, fishing, golf, hiking, horseback riding and other snow sports.
Red Lodge offers plenty of noteworthy recreational events and sites. The Red Lodge Mountain Resort and Red Lodge Nordic Center are famous for their ski slopes, trails and comfortable accommodations. A National Finals Ski-Joring event held during March at one of the ski resorts. There is also the fun and exciting Home of the Champions Parade and Rodeo that features professional cowboys and cowgirls. Other events include the Annual Beartooth Hospital and Health Center Ball, Annual Beartooth Rally and the Peaks to Prairie Triathlon.
The city also has something for people who enjoy nature, art and culture. There are the Carbon County Historical Society and Museum, Roman Theater, Beartooth Nature Center and the Red Lodge Carnegie Library. Art galleries include the Carbon County Arts Guild and Depot Gallery, Coleman Gallery and Studio and the Charles Ringer Studio and Gallery.
For visitors, Red Lodge has plenty of hotels and restaurants that could provide warm hospitality, delicious food and excellent service. Comfortable lodging is offered by Alpine Lodge, Beartooth Hideaway Cabins and Best Western Lupine Inn. Meanwhile, visitors will experience unique dining pleasure at restaurants like Bear Creek Saloon and Steakhouse, Bogart’s Bridge Creek and Café Regis.
